NINE people were arrested, charged with a crime and then jailed and bailed earlier this week as part of a fundraiser held by Age UK Blackburn with Darwen.

Employees from Westholme Senior School, Forbes Solicitors, Nat West, the Legal Services Guild and the Lancashire Constabulary were amongst those who took part in the event, which challenged each participant to raise £250 in donations to secure their release.

Students from Blackburn University Centre also took part in the fundraiser, which was held at the Town Centre Police Station from 10.15am on Monday, 5th October.

There was also a surprise ‘mock arrest’ at Westholme Senior School on Meins Rd, Blackburn, after a former pupil turned police officer, arrested Deputy Head Mrs Gough in the morning assembly.

The ‘Jail and Bail’ event raised more than £1600 with all proceeds going to local services for older people within Blackburn and Darwen.
