Take a look round the cells at Blackburn Police HQ Whitebirk Drive specialist teams Special Constables showcase Ribble Valley police Peel Business Park parking organisations Eastern Division East Lancashire Community Safety cars Ambulance Service ambulance Greenbank Police Station is opening its doors to the public on Sunday 16 September 2012 for the public to take the chance to see behind the scenes.

People will be given a rare opportunity to tour the communications department, CCTV room and the cells. Visitors will also be given a chance to meet the police horses and dogs and speak to armed officers whilst seeing some of the Constabulary’s road policing vehicles and some classic police cars.

Information about other organisations and volunteering opportunities within the police, including Special Constables, will also be available on the day.

The event will be held between 11am and 4pm, at Greenbank police station, Whitebirk Drive, Blackburn, BB1 3HT. A park and ride will be operating from the Peel Business Park, Whitebirk Drive and will run throughout the day. There will be no parking at Greenbank.

The free event is aimed at giving members of the public an opportunity to meet officers, have a say on policing issues and get a behind the scenes understanding of an operational police station.

There will be plenty of activities for young people including trying on police uniform and uncovering clues in the ‘crime scene’ room. There will also be a climbing wall, games and a competition.

Representatives from Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley Community Safety Partnerships, Crimestoppers, the army and the fire and ambulance service will set up stall to showcase their work.

Chief Inspector Justin Srivastava said: “The open day is a fantastic opportunity for the public of East Lancashire to gain an insight into the work of the police force. I hope it helps to promote greater understanding of the work of the various departments and specialist roles within the Constabulary.

“People will be able to meet officers from the local neighbourhood teams and senior managers responsible for the policing of Eastern Division.

“It will be a great occasion and I hope that all visitors enjoy the experience.”
