Darwen man dies in crash with HGV near Sawley


 PoliceDarwen man Ronald Birch, known as Ronnie Birch, died in a collision involving and HGV and his motorbike yesterday.

The accident occurred on the A59 near Sawley at about 3pm whilst both vehicles were travelling towards Gisburn. Ronald unfortunately dies at the scene. The road was closed for several hours with diversions through Chatburn and Clitheroe.

Ronnie, 39, was a director at DCS in Clitheroe and went to Heysham High School.

Sergeant Sean Cunningham from the Road Policing Unit said: “An investigation is underway and I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision and didn’t stop at the scene to come forward and contact police.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information about the incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101.
