The man has been knocking on the doors of houses in the Blackburn area and claiming that his car has broken down or run out of petrol and will ask for money to fix the problem. Sometimes claiming that he has a wife and child stuck in the vehicle, he will then take money from people, promising to return it at a later date but then he never returns.

Sergeant Sue Bushell from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team said; “I would like to warn residents to be vigilant and advise them not to give money to people they don’t know.

“If anyone has been approached by this man and hasn’t yet been in touch with the police, then I would ask them to contact us by calling 101 and asking to speak to myself in the North East Blackburn Neighbourhood Policing Team.”

The man has been described to police as Asian, of medium build and around 40 years of age.
