Con artist caught on CCTV in Darwen shop

Police have issued a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak with after an offence of fraud was committed at an off licence in Darwen.

The offence took place at the Boozepoint shop on Bolton Road just before 3pm on Tuesday 14th August when a woman has allegedly defrauded the shopkeeper out of £50 by deliberately confusing her when requesting to change a note.

The woman is described as white, slim, aged in her 20s with long purple hair. She was wearing a baseball cap, pink t-shirt, black jacket and blue jeans.

Police are urging other shopkeepers to be vigilant.

PC Amanda Bleazard said: “I would appeal to anybody that recognises the woman pictured in the CCTV image to come forward and contact police on 101 quoting crime reference EA1207287.

“It is possible this fraud may have been attempted elsewhere so I would urge shops to be watchful and to report any concerns to police.

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
