Police have named a 79 year old woman who was killed in Blackburn on Wednesday. She was Maria Parkinson from Blackburn and was hit by a Volkswagen Golf on Spring Lane near the junction with Buncer Lane at about 2.50pm on Wednesday 4th July.

She was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but sadly died a short time later.

The road was closed for 2 hours to allow accident investigation work to take place and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A 24 year old man from Blackburn has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and dangerous driving.

Sergeant Steve Wignall from the Road Policing Unit said, “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to come forward and contact the police.

“An investigation has been launched as we try to establish exactly what happened. We have specially trained officers supporting the family at what is a very difficult time for them.”
