Darwen man jailed for sexual assaults on seven year old girl
A MAN, who sexually assaulted a seven year old girl, has been jailed for eight years.
Luke Shorrock, 23, of Hindle Street, Darwen appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this afternoon. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and was banned from working with children for life. He must not have unsupervised contact with children under 16 for ten years under the conditions of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
Shorrock was found guilty of attempted rape of a girl under 13 and sexual assault of a girl under 13 on Friday 16 December 2011 after a week long trial.
The offences happened on 12 August 2011.
The court heard that her mother’s boyfriend spotted them in the bathroom upstairs and Shorrock looked shocked. The little girl ran straight towards the man knocking him over and she burst into tears and said Shorrock had pulled down her pants.
The police arrived and arrested 23-year-old Shorrock and later interviewed the victim. She told how he had apparently been waiting for her upstairs and pulled her towards the bathroom.
Shorrock denied the allegations.
Officer in the case DC Jane Challenger said: “Shorrock is a predatory and dangerous man who deliberately targeted a vulnerable young girl.
“We have supported the girl and her family throughout what has been a very difficult time and I hope they will now be able to start to put this terrible ordeal behind them and move on with their lives.
“Whilst this type of crime is rare, it will not be tolerated and we will continue to do everything we can to target and prosecute offenders.”
