Take Away Review – Roe Lee Indian

Take Away Review Roe Lee Indian Whalley New Road reviews missing local indian food

Having decided on an Indian take away, we decided to order online at just-eat.com but were surprised at the lack of choice of indian food take aways. Lots of pizza and Chinese choices but a distinct lack of Indian food, so maybe some of our local businesses are missing a trick.

We had tried Roe Lee Indian Takeaway on Whalley New Road quite some time ago and some online reviews were giving very favourable feedback.

Although there were four of us eating, we decided to order for three, as quite often we find ourselves over-faced by the quantity of food from local takeaways. We wanted a real feast so ordered starters and main courses.

We shared a massive portion of onion bhaji and two king prawn puri starters, along with some poppadoms which we had asked for the usual selection of chutney et al. We were disappointed that the expected raiti was missing form the selection. The onion bhajis were crisp and spicy and in very generous supply. The puri and poppadoms had a slight taste of stale oil, which is always a bit of a worry. But again massive portions and a lovely spicy sauce with large chunks of tomato in the king prawn puri sauce.

For main course we chose, king prawn rogan josh, chicken tikka masala and chicken dhansak. They came along with pilau rice and some very large naan bread. All the curry dishes were very flavoursome with the rogan josh having quite a kick. The portions seemed very large again, but it was quite deceptive as there was more sauce than expected and the meat and prawn a little bit on the sparse side. We were left with containers half full of sauce at the end, playing hunt the meat!

Overall the food was of good quality with the only worry being the slightly “off tasting” puri and poppadom. The bill came to just short of £30, which was boosted due to the expensive king prawn starters. We did notice that they offer some very good value “meal deals” Monday to Thursday, which you might want to check out if you want a good curry for less.

Overall a good meal with just a few disappointments.
